Websters Dictionary: Changeling: (noun):
1. One who, or that which, is left or taken in the place of another.

The Changeling
At dawn, I looked
with eyes wide open.
The color of his hair had
snow-stormed to wintery gray
crowded out to who knows where
to join a master work
in perfect granite,
his finite features
raisined to roadways that buckled
into nose and cheek and brow.
Somehow spared by nature's cruelty
are steel blue eyes,
eyes that walk my dreams,
and lips that taunt and tease.
Where was I when all this happened,
here, a changeling, too,
and robbed as well?
Today, when morning slipped inside
and kissed my eyelids,
I felt blessed it reached across
to touch his too.

Thank you CJ for sharing this. You wrote this from the heart, and there is love and emotion here as well. Whatever happened to us that made us grey, indeed! We all become changelings in life, being replaced by semblances of ourselves, and robbed by the cruelty of the years. But even as we change from one to the other, we still have our mate with us.
May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie |

Hi CJ,
I haven't been around much lately and it seems you haven't either. You were on my mind today and I felt the need to take a peek at your work once again and was so delighted to read this last poetic entry. Poetry is at it's finest when we allow the reader inside to enjoy and identify.Mission accomplished, dear one. Your words are so soft and loving and make me especially happy when I think of someone's eyes, not as youthful now, but ones who give instead of rob and ones who will age gracefully and lovingly with mine. This has touched my heart today and I thank you. Miss you bunches too!
Love and sunshine,
Taylor |

Ah, CJ, what a beautiful write - sensitive, slightly whimsical in its amazement about how it all happened, poignant....
I love this line especially, *The brown of your hair was
snow-stormed to wintery gray,* and the other descriptions of time's tracks upon our person.
Just beautiful. Peace. Joyce Hale |

| In this rather artistically written piece, I see a lady wondering where the time went(in plain terms). Woke up one day and they were old, well, older. Where had it all gone? Something like we drive someplace and can't remember getting there, but we are there. The last verse tells me she doesn't regret it though and is happy for her circumstance. Older, but she still has her fella. |
