I'm sure it happens all the time ...

Bytes Out of Lives

Lonely spouses sit unaware,
as bytes are stolen
from their lives.
Little black words
race across a white screen
where faceless people sit,
all alone, yet not alone,
each with empty space to fill.
Silent words reach out
and gently pull them in.
Hollow little word worlds
where things are shared
that shouldn’t be.
Hearts fill with promise.
Fingers spell out hope.
Minds begin to justify
two wrongs into a right
until each soul offers
what belongs to someone else
in the little black words.
With each new keystroke,
lust and fantasy are painted
on stark computer palettes.
Chasms at home widen.
Marriages wither and die.
And with each new letter
in the little black words,
the gulf between them
grows just a little bit wider
for spouses sitting unaware
as bytes are stolen
from their lives.

CJ - A monumental work, indeed. A computer is the cocktail bar without the cost and prescence. Yes, for those who have become disenchanted with their mate, it will happen. Howsomeever, the same gadget brought the two of us into a llimited friendship, which I enjoy immensely. Too, each of us have other cyber-pals, from whom wee get fresh poetry and learn about things in the livesrsons of persons we've never known, otherwise. I suppose it's like the REAL world; the toys are there... if one wants to play the game... and so many do, as your wise words and charges state. This is good work, my smart friend. By the way, this Friday, let's meet at the corner of AuthorsDen and Writer's Forum, shall we? Ole Tongue-in-Cheek, - Bill

Whew! Lord Almighty!! You said it--gracefully--but you said it! Infidelity stinks--badly, and its stench is even fouler when it's done within the confines of the marital home. Whether it's clandestine phone calls, or IMs, or emails doesn't much matter. What does matter is the disrespect done to the unaware spouse--for which there is no excuse.

Cowards steal bytes--winners use them to look for productive solutions.

Very nice work,

Not only from the white screen, but from the mouth as well...little bytes often undermine relationships. Excellent message, CJ!

CJ,
What multi-dimensional IMPACT this dynamic write can have on every soul who reads it!
Virtual relationships are at their height...there are too many lonely
spouses....male and female. Too many lonely people, period.

I agree with Victor..the real enemy rules the airwaves.

Cj...this is a Keeper for all to see! What a creative mind you have!
Night and day...the bytes occur, and just last night a marriage of 21 years ended for one of my dear sisters, she had no clue?
The bytes stole her life right out from under her, and he left.
This is a situation, where you can't byte back!
Love and Peace~

The power of darkness has attacked the family so well that today marriages are breaking up so easily, no time for children who suffer most and grow up without any moral values. Your imagery is great in this excellent poem. Victor

Oh CJ, only your extraordinary insight is superior to your writing ability. The 'screen' can't begin to understand how much love, patience and understanding is required to fullfll a relationship. It only knows what it is told. Your wisdom shines through as always.
