You Kissed Her Goodbye

Dedicated to the wives of the DWH crew and all of us offshore wives who have to kiss our men goodbye not knowing if they'll ever return.

You Kissed Her Goodbye

You kissed her goodbye
And said please don’t cry.

It’s all in God’s hands
You know we follow his plans.

She said please be safe and no matter what you do
Don’t ever forget how much I love you.

You said don’t worry Honey
She asked is it really worth the money?

..To risk your life
For your kids and your wife.

You said it’s worth more than that
As you grabbed your hard hat.

I do this for my country
Not just for the money.

There’s more to this than just you and me.
It’s a much bigger picture can’t you see.
We serve the world my brothers and me.

We put gas in the cars and shoes on our feet.
Wipe the sweat from our brow without missing a beat.

So many things that oil and gas makes
And if I don’t come home you know it’s just fate.

I take pride in what I do and not just for the money
It’s about so much more than you and me Honey.

So through the blood, sweat, and tears
I’ll work year after year.

You know I love you more than anything in this world.
And no matter what happens you’ll always be my girl.

So if I don’t come back and you’re missing me at night
Go outside and look up to the sky.
You’ll be seeing my face as I wave goodbye.

I’ll be missing you too as you kneel down to pray.
You’ll hear my voice saying we’ll be together again one day.

We know it’s part of His plan
And we’re all in His hands.

Then you kissed her goodbye
And said please don’t cry.

A tender love poem dealing with the fears that life can throw at us and separate us from our loved ones. Splendid poetry written from the heart.

Very heartfelt and loving tribute not only to the oil rig workers but to all men and women who work in the risk fields to provide for others.
