You Were There

This was my first poem and was written in less than 15 minutes. My thought was to see if I could quickly create something inspirational enough to be published in one of those weekly inspirational emails. I was surprised to find that this poem was a finalist in an international poetry contest and one of 33 poems chosen to be professionally recorded on a poetry CD.

You Were There

While I was gone, you sat for me,
My children safe, you set me free.
Romantic tunes that filled the air,
My love fulfilled since you were there.

The tears you saw welled in my eyes,
Were pain and sorrow and sad goodbyes.
Though difficult they were to bare,
Through each of them, I found you there.

From birthdays, parties and children play,
To events in the park that last all day.
Theme parks, Ozarks and the county fair,
Oh, the memories we share ‘cause you were there.

As time draws by and I reminisce,
I think of occasions I would have missed.
You gave me a portion of your loving care,
My life is fulfilled, for you were there.

Thank You my Friend
