Saturn's Pain

A mother's sorrow

A quiet evening putting away some things,
Then suddenly, the loudest noise,
Where was it coming from, what could it be!

I heard but couldn't see, what sounded
like brand new kittens.  That was hard
to believe.

When I saw my Saturn, there were
three babes by her side.  She looked at me and
hissed, I said okay, I'm going away.

They made the loudest noise, what strong
lungs they had!  They must be very healthy,
of that I was very glad.

But their sounds were ones of sorrow, that's
all I can think.   I cried my eyes out the next day
when one of them passed away.  Only two days old,
what went wrong?   He was much too young to sing
his swan song.

Sad to lose the one, but at least we had the other two.
Then another tragedy happened, one more was gone.
What was wrong, I didn't know what to do.

We still have one babe on the porch, his cries are loud,
Is this a normal thing, or does he miss his siblings too?

What is Mama feeling with all the pain she went through?
Is she just like a human Mama and feels the pain too?
I'm sure she must because, after all, cats are people too.

What a surprise for you ... and then what a loss. Mother Nature acts swiftly and in ways we can't understand whether she is dealing with animals or people. With sadness in our heart we are forced to accept a stronger force.

So very sad, and I also believe they feel pain and heartbreak. One of my dogs is a tiny Chihuahua that I found starving in an alley. She was also pregnant, and she had a very tough delivery. She had four pups, and sadly, one of them was still-born. I know there was great pain and sorrow in her heart when I took the dead little one away and buried it in our yard. She truly loves her other three pups, but she often sits out in our yard right beside that grave.

I could not agree with you more, Mary. Cats, and Dogs are people who just cannot speak.
