It was somewhere among the solitude of a lazy

summer afternoon that she realized how often

she had settled.

And it was somewhere amid the silence of a sultry

August evening that thoughts of life’s brevity

 swept over her.

With this came the realization that more than

half her life had been spent  as though it were

a perpetual clock with never ending seconds

 ticking forward.

And so it was, that quiet yet eventful summer,

she dared to live life –

with all its hopes and dreams –

vowing never more to simply settle.

HALLELUJAH! THIS IS A DYNAMIC INSPIRATIONAL WRITE THAT BREAKS THE SHACKLES OF 'SETTLING' AND ENCOURAGES 'REACHING 'FOR THAT IMPOSSIBLE DREAM. I LOVE IT...FOR WITH CHRIST WE CAN DO ALL THINGS!...SO, WHY SETTLE? THANKS FOR SHARING AND BLESSINGS TO YOU.

My Dear Friend, this is one of your best writings. You've eliminated any hedging and caution, and I wish for you a realization that tis poem will be a guiding lamp for a new path in mid-years. Taking your own advices is a very good idea, here. ... burst the balloon! I love it... - Bill

Dawn,
Fine positive attitude, an awakening of self and soul presented in easy flowing lines that define and soothe...and challenge each of us to face the possibilities of ourselves. I love the thought and style of this poem.

I applaud your attitude and your outlook, Dawn. Life,

This makes me break out in a sweat, Dawn. My life had been so safe and stable until I "found myself" when I started writing 5 years' ago... that epiphany has helped me piece together my past, present and future, like an arrow defining the self. The ongoing slipping of the sands of time makes me panic... I suspect you articulate the visceral thoughts of many with this neatly considered write. Thank you. xx

Well said, Dawn. One should stop to smell the roses, but not settle down to live with them.

Many people, most people I think tend to settle for what is expected of them by other, their peers, friends, family. What these caring souls don't realize is that they too were meant to fly but because they chose to settle, they NEED you to settle too so they won't feel so bad about their condition. Flying is dangerous because it means leaving what is known behind but, oh what joys can be experienced when we begin to soar with other fliers. I really enjoyed this poem Dawn. hugs, J'nia

I have felt that realization and the years are often not kind, and the sadness of it is that as we age and watch or bury more and more of friends and family...it is hared to accept that reality.

Dawn, One must never settle, we all deserve the best, and if we do settle, then we are saying that we deserve less. You, my friend, deserve the best the Universe has to offer and please never forget it!

Very nice, Dawn. The clock of life waits for no wo/man, so to "simply settle" is to rest, and the remaining time must be spent aggressively living and feeling the joy of pure life.
