I love the imagery of the first stanza... I love autumn, but dread the winters chill. With all going on in my life right now I am hoping that the winter that is currently threatening will quickly pass into the fresh green of new growth of early spring.
Sigh...

| It's as though you've expressed all the conflicting feelings that this beautiful time of year brings to my heart. I love late summer and I love fall; I just wish they'd last longer. I feel like I could release my tentative way and embrace, with abandon, all the gifts of this time of year if I could only accept (or for a time forget about) the next season waiting behind the curtain. Sometimes, I feel I'm unfair to winter as it has many attributes, many beauties all its own. I do so love long winter walks after a fresh and deep snowfall. Winter is a time of withdrawal and introspection - a time of preparation to emerge anew when the time is right. Sigh. |

Dawn - Enjoyed your Autumn's Shadows and its philosophy of circular motion which seem to be the pattern of life and the wisdom of the lines:
Still, she was wise enough to know there were
those things she was unable to control
things like people, emotions not her own,
and seasons.

| "Autumn's Shadows" truly describes the mood of autumn and winter. I have similar feelings myself; however, as I age I am so thankful for life that I try to pull from even the worst days the glory and joy that can be found in all nature. I suppose it is a mindset of sorts how we greet each season. I love your poem. |
