The Woman in the Looking Glass

Do we really know who we are?

As I look into the looking glass
I don’t know who I see
This face is unfamiliar
Looking back at me
I do not know her
And she does not know me
Is this really what other?
People see?

I am timid, unsure of myself
Always second guessing the
Feelings I have felt

She looks strong
And so confident
Always a smile upon her lips
So sure of who and what she is
While I tremble at the thought
Of confronting the uncertainty ahead

She knows that she can handle anything
While I cower in my mind
Behind the wall I have built there
Away from future snares

But, I must admit
I like her more than myself
If only I were her
And she were me
How much easier my life would be
