All the goodness from the Earth

The night before Thanksgiving Day
We knew the task ahead
Prosperity in the food array
A clean-up that we dread

In the morning the fragrant smell
Of cinnamon in the air
Potpourri and the cooking dwell
The bounty displayed with care

All waited for the carving board
A time for thanks grew near
The sauces from our effort poured
Our company ever dear

The delight of the feast
Featured was the turkey
Carving the colors of the beast
Drinks clear and some murky

Plates filled with goodness from Earth
We could not speak nor move
Mulled cider on the hearth
We slipped into the eating groove

The turkey and the giblets
Worcestershire sauce
Complemented our gimlets
Potatoes, cranberries and applesauce

Awe, the pumpkin pie
And eggnog-clad glasses
A comfort in the autumn sky
And grimaces on the lasses

Then came the wood-burning fire
Faggots crackling in the hearth
Friendships we desire
Thanksgiving from the Earth.

A very well expressed and well descriptive piece. Thought I was sitting there at the table .....

Be safe,
