A call to prevention and cessation of the leading most preventable cause of death... tobacco use as well as the third leading most preventable cause of death, secondhand smoke
|
What Momma Say
By Minister Judy Mays
Been doing some thinking, Oh, the things you find
You'd be surprised at what you left behind
A catcher's mitt and baseball too, a battered old cap and rusty spiked shoes
Your Brenda doll and teacup set, a collection of records and your old hairnet
I walk through each room and it's hard to believe
that we're together today because of such grief
Just yesterday it seemed, you were on your dad's lap
He'd rock you and hold you... then you'd take a nap
He'd sit in his cahir then light up a pipe
I'd fuss about the smell and he'd ask what's the gripe
I didn't know then what I know now...
that tobacco use kills and makes us all POW's
Prisoners of War and others must see
So that we all may truly be free
Tobacco use isn't just a personal right
It affects public health and so we must fight
Now you know momma knows best - what I say
I want you to live out your God given days
This is momma's house and in here I rule
and you know momma didn't raise you to be a fool
No smoking or chewin' and I mean it you hear?
Then momma sat down to wipe her own tear
Take to heart the rules of momma's house
Share them with your friends, family and spouse
Take this message far and near
No tobacco use will be allowed here

Judy offers this good way of expressing mother's concern for the health of children. It is time we all become more 'health-conscious' -- and listen to the words of our wise mothers.
