One Ton

on the morning of the babys' eve
lives will become front page news
tears will wash away anothers chalk
one ton of death took her away
fifty pounds of love now rest in heaven

candles never shall burn forever and a day
life begins and ends then, begins anew
today blood flows like bitersweet wine
one ton of metal with broken headlight
rests next to a little twelve ounce shoe

and as the angels claim immortality
another angel is sent home on this day
a driver left to soak in his mortal sin
handcuffed to his neverending guilt
one ton of punishment, multiplied daily

a babys Christmas to always remember
on the morning of another babys eve
father and mother with no gifts to share
one ton of tears on every Christmas Eve
fifty pounds of love visited on each Christmas day..

Sad, when it could be prevented. The drunk drivers get away with it too often.
Merry Xmas to you to Michael.
