Sometimes the soul cries
And you fail to listen
Agony in the garden of my heart
There I whisper my tears
As they fall to the soft ground
Of my palm.

Sometimes the soul cries
And you see the naked truth
Only pain can reveal like graphics
Sharp and striking yet you twitch
And close your eyes away from it
And it won’t go away.

Sometimes the soul cries
Quietly in the corner of my room
Moonbeam lights the darkness
Listening as I weep
Yet she can’t wipe my tears
The moonlight is not enough.

Sometimes the soul cries
I want to scream silently
Utter your name
My lips quivering softly
But you won’t hear me
Even as you gaze at my eyes.

Sometimes the soul cries
You mock your futile emotion
Like Pontius Pilate
Cleansing the blood on his hands
Blinded by your father’s philosophy
And your brothers’ religion.

Sometimes the soul cries
Can’t you hear me?
Can’t you listen to this soul’s plea?
Can’t you spare a little of you?
A part of your heart
A part of your soul
And know this wound
From the lash of your whip
My battered soul
Your name etched on each wound
They never heal
Will never heal
Until you hear my soul cry.

Erica, how wondeful is your poetry. You know I knew I knew you. From written by me right? Gosh, your poetry was familiar, and kept tugging at my heart strings. Love and welcome back to AD. Bill

God, I love reading the reviews. The women relate and the guys hit on you (generally). You certainly have an eye for form, bringing the theme full circle and the such. The word "soul" works in this piece, but I suggest refraining from using abstract cliches like "soul" and "heart." We've heard them a million times before and they don't really conjure an image, do they?

Clearly, a poet with Pontius Pilate in her arsenal can paint a picture of her soul and her heart that is specific and strong and...I can't wait to read what you write next.

I used to think the pain would never heal. Once I surrendered to the pain and allowed myself to swim through it as if I were going from one side of a murky lake to the next... I amazed myself and found strength and joy and courage. Good luck on your own journey.
