How Are You?

A Proem (Prose+Poem)

Believe me when I asked, “How are you?”
Cross my heart that I wanted to know
How have you been doing?
How are you dear friend?
How are you dear brother?
Is the weather kind there to you?
Has anyone been ruthless to you lately?
Have you been punching their ugly faces?
Have you been slapping them with your bloody words?
Or have you been in love lately with heart in tears?
Tears that draw blood from your soul as your veins constrict.
Has the tide washed away the murky dirt of your immediate past?
Or you wish them to stay and let them dry until they become clays.
These clays you mold and shape them into a beautiful maiden straight
From your comic book that you kept since you were fifteen and freaking.
And this maiden you created will take your heart and in her beautiful eyes
Your soul mesmerizes as it drowns into her beauty like the Colombian roses I love.
You put this woman in the throne of love and lust and there you worship her feet
Smooth and soft, her feet you reach as she looks down on your face that beams love.
She smiled at you and whispered words you wished she screamed instead.
So the world of words will hear about this story of love and fiction, of truth and
Impossibilities of the hearts in distance divided by oceans where we dream of Swimming and float on the water and you between the salt water and blue sky.

The oceans will always be there
People die in the end
Yet the ocean and your love will never die.
You might as well swim in the mighty enigma of the ocean
Until you reach the Great Divide and destroy it with your words and hands.
Until then, the maiden waits for my dear friend who always says he is fine
Yet I know at times he was already drowning in the maiden’s soulful eyes.
All thousand of miles away yet her face he sees even in his dreams…
And when he wakes up he still says he had a good sleep
Yet I know she haunted him again in his dreams of love and lust…

Are you fine my dear friend?
I worry that you think you are fine.
Maybe you are telling the truth
But truth is relative having many sides.
Your side and mine.
And hers.

Now I shut up before you wish to slap my face
But please do not be angry in vain
After all this was just a prose of expression
And a poem of admiration
To a friend I know is tougher than most
I sign off now and catch you later
And ask you again, “How are you?”

And a flower for you.
