The Other Side of the Door

...inspired by Gene Williams' poem*

I heard the knock
and knew
your handy movements.

a spark ignited
in my heart
aware your lips would meet mine.

yet, I hesitated
at the door
knowing we could not last

your independence
ruled your life
and my heart would be broken

'tho the ache of our love,
worthy of cosmic stars,
could not be denied

I opened the door
you were there
your lips and mine at the ready
for fulfillment of what might be,
knowing there would be no tomorrows
...each haunted with hollow dreams*

Dear Micke, what a surprise for me, what an honor to be coupled
with your moving poem. I read it with admiration and an aching
heart. The Other Side of the Door is a perfect complement to Hollow Dreams. Thank you, thank you. With love, gene.

How said it is when there is love, but too many differences to make it work. I think all of us at one time have "been there, done that", I know I have. Doesn't make the hurt any less. Truly wonderful and expressive write
