Picture by thundercloud.net. Though it did not inspire this poem, I do think it complements it.

What an intimate feeling

The wind licking at my skin

Tasting the salty memories

Scenes that spread my grin

All those yesterdays

Hidden behind tomorrow

All that extra time

We wish we could borrow

Moments like these we cherish

Because the world spins too fast

So much loss for overall good

So few flags at half-mast

Roads of progress led to ruin

Collapsed beneath sure footing

Risks and faltering guarantees

Show no proof in the pudding

The world seems to be waiting

For the proverbial shoe to drop

Days lost on this merry-go-round

Time gone with each turn of the top

Grab a minute before it passes

Hold it dear; write it on your heart

For tomorrow threatens to arrive

Though today must never depart

Each part of this works perfectly together....the photo, the verse, the "philosophy." Beautiful writing, Sheila.

Sheila,
Beautifully written musing on the eternal question and problem of time and indeed an ode to time; and your style, phrasing and metrical intuition are simply excellent.

I love the journey you make in this poem, Sheila. The first and last stanzas envelope your thoughts to bring them full circle, and my goodness what lies in between! You have crafted this so well to include many bold images that take the mind in several of experience's directions all at once. You show us the diversity of what we must always hold onto ... and why! Excellent writing: tight and metrically perfect. An exhortation to espouse in the moment it presents itself! Thank you, Kate xx

I agree, Sheila; the graphic image does indeed complement your verses. You give the reader much pause for reflection here. Sometimes when I close my eyes it is as though I can "feel" time rushing past my face like a breeze. Very nicely done! Love, hugs, and best wishes to you,

Regis

Nicely written dear Sheila; the mixture of melancholy, strength, and philosophical insight. I also like the nuances of the prophetic inbetween your thoughts. We all need to prepare, in the next few years great changes are coming upon planet Earth.

While I read, a scene in the movie "Snow Falling On Cedars" came to mind, an excellent piece of cinematic art incidentally, in it the old lawyer bemoans: "Now, at my age, I understand my life more in terms of dying than living." Your were kind in your last two lines. Right now is what's most important. Being true to your calling, knowing what is yours to take care of and doing so, maintaining friendships that are real, weeding out the negative, always loving and supporting those that you were given to love, simplifying your life, ... the list is long. Your work always touches me.
Blessings ...

Excellent write! The clock of life is wound but once. What we do with each moment determines how many of those memories we will have tomorrow.

Father time is the clock that holds so many memories and in your sentence( It was difficult to pick just one in a pudding so rich) The World seems to be waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop...it is what is happening today as the world waits while leaders conspire and plot.Excellent mastery as is your gift.

One of your best. Shiela this has so much wisdom and room for the reader to reflect on that I truly love it, especially the second verse, for although there are so many great lines in it that one seemed to mirror my own feelings of late.
