When the Sky Falls

Strange how I gave Chaos a masculine identity here, and Order was written to be female. lol. Here is another one of my tributes to nighttime.

When the Sky Falls

Midnight’s eyes were upon me

I adored his scrutiny

The stars were misbehaving

The wind whispered mutiny

Through the madness, I remained

Midnight’s affections my boon

I watched him plead with the stars

Then he bartered with the moon

Yet just as a deal was struck

Chaos winked a playful eye

He shook his yellow-gold hair

And gave a contented sigh

For Order was miles away

She couldn’t return so soon

Chaos put faces on stars

Wishes shifted to the moon

Now I couldn’t help but flinch

The moon had no granting skills

I was fond of the moon’s grin

But smiling stars gave me chills

The wind only made things worse

Whistling in every ear

And I was kicking myself

For wearing something so sheer

Midnight saw my discomfort

He couldn’t stand idly by

It was time to set things right

Drive Chaos out of the sky

Magic formed around Midnight

Darned if I wasn’t bewitched

The sun was a rising star,

On which our wagon was hitched

Pink light teased the horizon,

Tickling Chaos’ toes

Midnight’s spell could move mountains

And entice the sun to pose

Chaos loves a good sunrise

There are more people to taunt

He’s quick to beguile them

With reckless actions that haunt

His magic comes full circle

He moves on more than he stays

He’s a messy traveler

Clean up can stretch on for days

Chaos gave us one more glance

He shrugged, waved, and then moved on

The stars and moon were relieved

With him, the chaos had gone

I’d lost my time with Midnight

There’d be no dancing till dawn

I bid farewell to darkness,

And then Midnight, too, was gone

The stars were safely hidden

The wind was softly blowing

The moon wore a darling grin;

His face dim, but still showing

His mellow voice called warning

Of Chaos’ disarray

“We never know when he’ll come,

But he always finds a way.”

I loved the personification of chaos and order as male and female, respectively. Clever writing, carefully crafted and worded, Sheila and quite a vivid picture as well! Well done! Hugs, Elizabeth

Sheila, I love your take on this subject -- chaos is the great elixir of all things living and not -- for he stirs to boiling every pot -- shoves hot coals at the lot of us -- for chaos is the spice of all things, the uncertainty, the marked changes in all that is -- let's all give him a big hand -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael

You wrote this really well. One of your best!
This Chaos-Order thing, does it have its roots in your novels?
I think the biggest clue into the complexities of Chaos is in the last stanza and sixth line - one word - disarray. A mental state characterized by a lack of clear and orderly thought and behavior.
Wonderful ...
