A cardboard box upturns

And the sea of photos spilled

Empty albums stacked beside her

She’s determined they’ll be filled

But so many are her loved ones

All their faces held so dear

How to organize a lifetime

Seems so hopelessly unclear

There-- the twins when they were babies

Which was which? (A mother knows)

There’s the Bricken girls together

Once again (so long ago)

There’s Bobby—she was teasing him

He’s sticking out his tongue

And Daddy looks so handsome

He was taken much too young

As she sifts through all the memories

She smiles (a tear is shed)

And though the albums sit forgotten

It’s her heart that’s filled instead

Your lovely poem is a reflection of my own attempts to organize my photographs. Like you, the memories take over and subterfuge any attemps to organize. In the realm of things, each photograph has its own timeframe and stands alone regardless of organization. An excellent write.

Leann you have written this so well, how many of us do tend to take hundreds of pictures capturing so many memories of love and life in those celluloid pieces of plastic. I have done the same as this poem many times...good intentions but the memories that flood back are just too special to be categorized perhaps for like you I never complete the task. Well done.

And a snapshot of a moment... Memory, part of life. Sometimes we are not aware that we are creating memories for tomorrow, so it's good to create the nice ones, moments of sharing, love, fun and deep understanding. Your poem is like photography that contains the family album.
