As a child, I had so much time for dreaming.
What if the waves froze? Could we walk to Hawaii?
Do ants talk to each other as they forage in the grass?
Look at the clouds! I see Pegasus!
Let’s build a sand castle with four tunnels,
And if it collapses, we’ll do it again.
Do we allow the little ones to dream today?
Are they scheduled and shuttled and tied down in car seats?
Is it lessons here and play dates there and
“Don’t touch that, it’s dirty?”
Our parents let us live in our child’s world,
And though we have issues, who doesn’t?
Exercise and imagination were never the problem.
