The Surprise


She has never had a surprise birthday party
She wanted one so bad

I pretended to ignore her
And she looked so sad

However she should have known
I will never let her down

She will always be cared for
As long as I am around

The plan started back two months ago
We were to go to church and then maybe to a show

She had asked if we could do something special
On her weekend off

I had already made plans and started to cough
It was hard to not let her know

Our friends were anxious and wanted their love to show
So when the big day came, it had to snow

Are we still going can we make it she had wanted to know
I will get us there of that I promise never mind the snow

The time for the party was to be at two-thirty or so
I got dizzy as we drove around our town square

Why are we going here why are we going there
She quizzed me and looked at me with a strange stare

But when the magic hand struck on the clock
And we entered our back door I witnessed her shock

She now has a beautiful memory to last her
For a life time thanks to those friends of mine

I don’t think I can do it again
But who knows love can cause things to happen

I will do so if the good Lord above will allow
I am going to plan for it and to do it somehow

Actually Betty Jean’s birthday was today, but due to her having to work we had the surprise over the weekend. It took a few months of planning, and things worked out wonderful. To say that she was surprised would be mild. Shocked would be more accurate.
