The loss of a parent is never easy, but I was lucky enough to spend the last 2 months with my father before he died from cancer.

Angels mortal, stay with me
As I walk life’s shadowed edge
For my life is bound with thee
Our smiles love’s silent pledge

Your presence brings my soul to bare
My child, my flesh, my blood, my pride
Tender moments now we share
Speaking words once kept inside

These moments shared in anguished days
Precious memories will become
Never fading, they will stay
And bring smiles in years to come

But it’s God’s will that he take me
So my time on earth be done
That day my love he frees
To live within your heart as one

In heaven reunited
You’ll return my love to me
Into my arms invited
Where forever you shall be

You may not hear my voice each day
But know that I am there
So remember words I say
For it’s more than life we share

The voice in this poem is soft and reassuring. This is the kind of poem that can bring the first smile to someone who has lost someone special. Beautifully written.

This so touched my heart. Death is not easy to deal with, but with flowing words from talented writers like yourself, I realize we walk the path together until we enter the gate alone. Much respect, Kathy

Hi Ed J,

This is very meaningful to me and strikes close to home. I just lost my brother too and this poem just reassures me death is not the end, we will be together soon. Just like your father, the love and memories he left me will always warm my heart.
