Being A Poet

In response to Bobbi's challenge.

We dance at surrealism's doorstep

use juxtaposition with an abandonment

known only to literate court jesters

truth be known, romance and passion were

fashioned auras from the flair of our pens

compassion rules our twisted rhymes

from Genesis to Wall Street and beyond

no subject matter too difficult for our art

enthusiastically we attack each possibility

with a relish to relate esoteric views

those of sensibility would surely overlook

historical archives by the tome no match

for the sudden twitching and scrathing

of an inspired poet on a date

with destiny's call to relate

poet, finer callings there may be

yet nowhere else

can insensibility and nobility clash

in such well intended grandeur than

the paper we lavish our sentiments upon

no smile exceeds that of a poet

in conversation with his muse

pen and paper in hand

I've never believed in a 'muse' but I do love the idea of one. I like the imagery of those last few lines. I guess the scene would be different for each reader. I also like how you express our ability, as poets, to explore different emotions and moods as though they are never set in stone. Indeed, for a writer, who is often ruled by emotions, exploring moods and imaginings can be a roller coaster. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

Audacity within the realm of enchantment, methinks.

"yet nowhere else

and

"no smile exceeds that of a poet

Truly delightful words from the poet you are, Jon!
