timidly I approach the dregs
cautious to glimpse, not stare
circumspection I vowed would rule
preconceptions I left elsewhere
lest overt despair unfairly depress
it is A Game! is it A Game?
framed by universal codes of fear
nearer damn it nearer the edge
I am compelled there is a pledge
to elude or evade, hah, without option
like flickering flame or boiling pot
compelling me, drawing me in
man that I am, face it I will
of what a bitter, bitter pill
a conscript to this fate
whose abatement I shall not see

I appreciate the philosophical perspective that you share within your verses here, Jon. As usual, you provide substance for thought. Love and peace to you my friend,

Introspection is bringing out your best. At least for now, in the game of life, we are only losers. But poetry like this lives on, making your mark on future generations.

If it's a game -- and I strongly suspect it is --, I don't understand
the rules. If there a r e any. Keep changing--?? All we can do is
find ways to escape [writing being one of the greatest] and keep on
keepin' ON. Right?? Glad I stopped by. This is thought-provoking.
Though it triggers mixed emotions. I am hoping that, as with many of us, the fact that you are writing in the first person does not
necessarily mean that the "I" is you. If it is, that the episode and-or mood that inspired you to write the piece, is in the past. Thank you for sharing this, Jon. Always, and Then, Phyllis

Sometimes its hard to face what one fears most. One tries to escape into the inner recesses of ambiguity. Darkness can transcend if one lets it..Try to look for the light! Always remember , tomorrow is another day!.....M

Jon, aside from the fact that this is superb, introspective
writing, I find it moving and a bit disturbing from where I sit.
Take good care, my friend. Yu are loved. -gene.

Digging deep down are you? I hope it's not six feet, you are certainly rumaging around dark corners here Jon, what made you reflect so defeatedly at this subject? But remember the crysalis, and it's always darkest before you can see a new star.
Love and Peace! Jasmin Horst

This is a dark side of you, Jon Michael...hoping it's not autobio as you are otherwise our cheerful bud. Raise chin and realize the lighter side, friend.
