Calm suicide
by Steven M Lacey

Things that were there before my eyes
Have disappeared to my surprise
People with whom love was shared
Lost with every new sunrise
Fighting back memories that won’t die
Uninvited chaos flows in with the tide
And I quietly drift in the wind
Committing this calm suicide

The walls I decorate every other day
The hair I style in each and every way
The fractured music my frustrated hands play

They say I’m crazy and maybe
I can’t argue with their reasoning
Oh I’ve searched far and wide
Looked everywhere, so deep inside
Staring out across the heath
Begging for some semblance of peace
This elusive ideal I’ve been following
My entire life it’s been swallowing

The marks and sratches left on me
Scars and wounds that won’t repair
Gasping, gasping, gasping for air
Shifts away leaving only darkness
I can only dream of what might have been
Heart so empty and filled with starkness
Love can be the cruelest thing
Ensuring that to this futile life we cling

The walls I decorate every other day
The hair I style in each and every way
The fractured music my frustrated hands play
There’s nothing else left to say…
