Its too quiet
dishes in the sink
bedding tossed where foot detangled
haphazardly lain messages scrawled
empty boxes telling of new wares
scattered remnants of life
cluttering the abode
Two off to High School
One moved out
The other leaving for college in 2 days
They came back into my dismal life
bringing with them joy and laughter
Now its time for the oldest 2 to move on
how I wish they were toddlers again
underfoot, always busy and time for hugs
their art endeavors hang on the walls
telling of skill aquired
Film rolls ready to be developed
marking the last time they'll all be together
smiles captured for future gazing
3 years until there is an empty nest
each year marked with tales of their lives
someday there will be little ones underfoot again
I used to dream of silk garmets and diamonds
I've found so much more
