Fingers, A Poem for Kimberly
My heart leapt for you whom long I awaited,
a gift of divine perfection would you mine be.
In awe of your tapered fingers I marveled,
that day when mine eyes beheld thee.
Side by side happily we stood rinsing dishes,
Our moment of you and me I cherish.
Mom fashioned twin braids with blue ribbon,
cling tightly lest memories irretrievably perish.
A butterfly like none other fluttered past me
Sparkling pixies dancing on toe shoe,
Tiny ballerinas with balloons and candy
Down every cheek ran tear drops of dew
I gasped when she curtsied, my breath nearly stolen.
Such precious seconds number so few.
My heart did break though mend it did quickly.
Before me I see its shadow still lingers ...
whose delicate grace will ever beauty inspire
what are as lovely as my butterfly's fingers?
