You can subdue me with your hands
strong, honey hands with scarred knuckles
that clutch my wrists
and scatter me like snow across the ground
You can subdue me with your width, your height
the mountain firmness of your stance
blocking the doors, the windows
casting me into shadow before your massive presence
You can subdue me with your mouth
burning the landscape of my skin
drinking the dew from my tongue
scorching my belly
bursting suns beneath my ribs
You can subdue me with comfort and promises
that fall like dead leaves at your feet onto the ground
trampeled in your eagerness to give me things
to feed me lies
But it's me who subdues you with words
with myths that bind you to my bones
with worlds and creatures
that enslave you to kiss my fingertips with greed
