I wrote this while in the hospital.
That morning while my husband drove me to the hospital, I thought of a childhood classmate, who did everything in slow motion. I told my husband about him.
Later, I woke up from surgery. Now, I suddenly became the one who moved in slow motion. My one leg felt as heavy as a log and the pain felt almost unbearable.
Now, I wait for the day when that leg will feel normal again.

Don't laugh at a snail
See the big picture
We are all just cogs
We’re posed to lecture
But legs feel like logs?
Don’t laugh at slowness
Those who barely move,
Who step, as in a bog
Feeling so behoove
Existing in a fog?
Don’t laugh at hardships
What snail can leap?
Speak not what is lore
Then, pencil posed, sleep
Waken as before?
Don’t laugh at despair
Thinking you’re faultless
Will come to haunt you
Snails aren’t motionless
And do they feel blue?
