Perhaps

In answer to La Belle Rouges poem "Passing Whisper"

“Perhaps”

you would not need to shout out at all
least not to the cold dark night outside
where shadows of loss and sorrow fall
where the souls of long lost lovers hide

there are those echoes of sweet refrain
that would bounce wide from wall to wall
that cannot pass as a whisper in the rain
nor quite resemble my own verbiage at all

the sparks remain in those embers deep
where a certain query by sharp ear discern
although in wretched pain I may now sleep
the fires of our desires still in silence burn

it is that soft caress at the edge of dreams
where I dance as if in my youthful state
in remembrance of that whisper it seems
entrenched in solitude where I now await
