Sometimes we turn a blind eye to child abuse...sometimes it cost a life.

The earth so hard and cold
As they lower her in the ground
As we watch the tiny coffin
No one makes a sound
Is it guilt that we feel
As we slowly bow our head
That we didn't help this child
We turned our backs instead

Lord, accept this little one
As she comes into your fold
If she seems afraid, dear Lord
Give her Your hand to hold
May the angels gather 'round her
Gentle voices softly cry
As their harmony from Heaven
Sings and angels lullabye...

We passed her house many times
The shadows echoed her pain
Not willing to get involved
What would we have to gain
Beaten by her father
As the world went on its way
We went to our meetings
While her life's blood seeped away

Lord, accept this little one
As she comes into your fold
If she seems afraid, dear Lord
Give her Your hand to hold
May the angels gather 'round her
Gentle voices softly cry
As their harmony from Heaven
Sings and angels lullabye...

It saddens me to think/know people look the other way. This is written beautifully, Linda. I especially like the repeted verse.

Linda thanks for reminding us that our children are a gift from God! Must be treated like such darling wingless angels that they are. Woe to them that violate our children because they will encounter the wrath of God! Peace!!!

Devastating!!

The only light I see at the moment is that which shines because of
caring and talented writers like you.

The situation is grim, and the amount of ignorance and deliberate
looking away beyond shameful, but your poem, as far as I am concerned, could not be better.

How saddening that these happen the world over. I heard of so many unbelievable things when I worked in a Women's refuge, here in the UK...
This little Angel will be at peace now...no more fear and pain..
You have written this so compassionately Linda....So very moving.

OMG....this is so tragic...and it happens all the time! As I've said to Mr. Ed..in AD...so many times I cannot count...."The more I know about humans..the more I want to be with animals"...the cruelty of some human beings is beyond imagination! God Bless the children!

Very nicely penned, Linda, with heart and compassion!
