“A NIGHT OF MEMORIES”
June 29, 2006
From my book Pieces of Me.
She shuffles through
The heavy door
Leading her to
The meeting floor.
She knows not
Of what’s to come;
She knows not
The outcome.
But she is certain
On this ride
She’s gonna sail
A roaring tide.
She’s in the hall
With chatter filled.
She’s feeling small
And slightly chilled.
So many faces
So much new;
In this grand place
There’s much to do.
She slips through crowds
In hopes to hear
Familiar sounds
Ring in her ear;
In hopes to see
Familiar faces
So night won’t be
What the mind erases.
She’s feeling trapped
Like in the wood.
The route mapped
But nothing good,
For it’s unknown
Which path to take.
The time has shown
She cannot break.
The time drags on
But soon she finds
That special one
She had in mind.
She won’t be lost
Of that she’s sure.
Her night will most
Not turn to bore.
They mingle some,
Their voices soft
Amongst the roar
The crowd gives off.
A toast is raised
To life and chance.
They are amazed
By scenic trance.
Melodic curls
Waft through air.
The dance unfurls
As bodies near.
Lost in the vine
Of the band
Souls intertwine
Hand in hand.
The time has paused.
The night stands still.
The heart has soared,
Dazed in a thrill.
And all around
Has melted down.
For bliss surrounds
Two spirits now.
The end draws near;
Time to part.
And so she fears
A broken heart;
For he’ll vanish
And she’ll be
Forever banished
From his glee.
She shuffles through
The heavy door
Leading her to
The outside war.
But finds him there
With glowing eyes
Beneath the stare
Of starry skies.
He nods and whispers
And she beams.
His kiss, it lingers
On her lips.
And her heart clings
To what they’ll be.
For them fate sings
Eternally.
