Italian American Poem Dreaming of a White Christmas

Enjoy, and may your Natale be white! This poem can be sang to the beat of Bing Crosby's White Christmas.

I'm dreaming of a white Natale,

Just like the traditional ones I used to know

my parents would bundle me up in a puffy jacket, but my arms could not move,

why they bought be that snowsuit to embarass me, I will never know,

they said it was to keep me very warm as I went to play in the snow.

Where the countertop glistens with food, and the Italian Christmas songs to put  you in the mood,

and all of the cousins would argue over who won the game of Clue,

while papa and zio would smell like sambucca, and fall asleep at midnight while sitting  in the church pew,

To hear the church bells  or campanile in the snow, and listening to the radio or the Italian Christmas show,

I'm dreaming of a white Natale, with every Christmas recipe card I write
May your days be filled with Italian rum pastry and glowing stars ever so bright

And may your Natale be white.
I'm dreaming of a white Natale, with every  Christmas card I write
May your Natale be merry and bright and may all the relatives and in laws get along in peace, and decide not to fight,

may you not bump your head into the pounds of dry sausage hanging in zio's cellar, and may your christmas tree be stellar.

I am dreaming of a white Natale,as i think of zia's torta di limone and all the fish,

as we gave upon the bright red gift boxes from Italy filled with a special Italian wish.

papa's workboot footprints in the snow, our livingroom is the gathering place for all friends, family, and foe,

We always had room for everyone, even the mailman, milkman, and the plumber, Joe!

May your stomach dance with the home made sauce, may you pray for the relatives in heaven, as it a painful loss,

but soon you will smile, as your feet begin to tap, aand the wings of the dove begin to flap,

for the Italian Christmas music will fill the air,

mama's, zia and nonna's food is the way they show you that they care!

Struffoli, Torrone, and the gaudy, red, "Buon Natale" sign, just be careful Zio does not drink too much homemade wine,

I am dreaming of a white Natale, just like the traditional ones I used to know,in the peaceful night, you may stop and wonder, "where is zio?" as you go to search when he drank too much wine, you will see him laying in the snow!

Zia will yell, "getta up froma the snow, are you a crazy?"

On Christmas day, as everyone takes a nap, you will feel lazy

and you will enjoy the relatives and freinds who are in your living room, just smile and do not let them drive yu crazy.

And may your Natale be white

DEar Joanna,

You are making me hungry!! You also bring back fond memories of those I loved, who lived long lives but passed on to a better place. I think I'll dig out my Italian ricotta/sausage, brachute(SP) pie recipe and maybe my home made manicotti!!! See what you've done! Wonderful poem!!

Kind of waiting anxiously for Christmas season this yr. Last yr could care less as first since Tom's passing. I get excited over Christmas most years because of the kids and greandkids. Have to do lots this year and keep busy. Thank you for getting me stirred up again for it.
