A poem for my son, my shepherdboy!
|
A Man After God's Heart
David was a shepherd boy before he was a king,
Out in the fields with just the sheep he'd play his harp and sing!
He'd write the Psalms and gladly lift them up before the Lord,
God found them so important that He gave them as His Word!
And that they are, for God alone inspired the young man's thoughts,
He showed to David how his life could be lived as it ought!
From shepherd boy to warrior, fear held no place in him,
He killed a lion and a bear as if a passing whim!
And then one day a giant named Goliath came his way,
So David, with his sling and stone, brought death to him that day!
As he became a man he found that life was not so fair,
Sin found its way into his mind and to his heart from there-
The consequence was great and David thought that all was lost,
But time revealed through circumstance just how much it would cost!
Alas! This shepherd boy, now king, repents to God above!
He cries aloud for mercy, restoration, joy and love!
And you know what? God gave to him these attributes anew,
Just as He will today for those who need the same things, too!
It matters not what you have done or where you've been before,
The blood of Christ and love of God can satisfy you more!
If you don't know this story that I share with you today,
You'll find it in the Bible where God put it just to say-
If you desire to be a person after God's own heart,
Beware, for sin will come your way to see if you'll depart!
