A Matter of Perspective

When love burns down to ashes,
accusations are all we have to warm us.
I file this poem under "sad but true ."

Everyone must know
I am at fault.

Night falls
The wind blows
Time passes
Dreams dissolve,

And I’ve done it
just to hurt you.

What were they worth?
The best years of your life
They were a burden to me.
I could not complete in you
What you would not embrace
In yourself.

You gave me nothing
I gave it back.

I am a mirror.
Why shatter me?

I don’t make the rules.

Garbage in--
Garbage out--

Why did you seek perfection
Within a distorted glass?
