An Ode to Toby

An ode to my pet dog, who died yesterday, of old age. He'd become so much a part of my life - it's hard to believe he's gone. Death is hard for me to deal with. You will see that I'm not a poet, but I had to jot this down.

He was scared of thunderstorms
And he never liked getting wet
But he always barked to protect us
He was an amazing pet

Yes, Toby had a lot of character
Of which he didn’t boast
His happiest moment was dinner time
He could swallow an entire roast

He excitedly chased trucks
When they came around the bend
Particularly white utes
With noisy diesel engines

Toby made lots of friends
With many, many people
He charmed a girl from across the seas
Whose name is Aikiko

We will miss our friend
That blue dog with the black patch on his face
I hope he rests peacefully
Until he finds another ute in heaven to chase

Rest in peace, Toby
You will always be remembered

I lost my beloved Joy one day before my birthday Oct 23, 2005 and it still is heartbreaking when I think of her. They are in doggie heaven though. Like you I hate to lose a pet. They are so like family and so loved and cared for in life. To end it is sad. With you all the way on this write.

This is such a wonderful, heartfelt piece! Your passion and love for Toby comes clear and from your grieving heart. So very sorry for your loss, but Toby now dances among the brightest stars. It is so hard to grasp the death of a cherished pet, but in time you will hold close all the wonderful memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you....

Be always safe,
Karen

You do Toby proud with your wonderful words. I, too, recently lost a beloved pet of 16 years. May they all rest in animal heaven with St. Francis at the gate.

Chris,

I concur with Cathlene, below: you poured your heart and soul in beautiful lines of rememberance: I'm sorry for your loss. To some, pets are nothing; to the owners who love and care for them, they are family. Well done.

And welcome to AD, you're among friends.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
