This is a Poem I wrote in memory of a very good Poet friend of mine, Jeanine Guthrie. Jeanine wrote a lot of poetry using her alter ego, Miss Doreen.

This poem was written in memory of for Miss Jeanine Guthrie, AKA Miss Doreen.

Miss Doreen was a waitress her whole life at the local small town diner. She didn't have any great expectations in her life. She always told it like it was.  Shehad lots of boyfriends in her life. One of the specialties of the house was "Strawberry Sundae" with crushed nuts. She was pretty sweet on one old boy. Who was always on the road hauling things in his big rig. One time he went the diner to see Miss Doreen. She was a little mad him. He asked her for one of those "Strawberry Sundaes." "Could you put some of those crushed nuts on it?", he asked. She responed in kind, "I'll be glad to crush your nuts!" Jeanine loved to fish.

Miss Doreen

Doreen, Doreen, Doreen

I stopped by the diner the other night.

To see if you wanted to go fishing.

And to get one of those famous sundaes.

With whipped cream and crushed nuts.

The place seemed kinda quiet for a Saturday Night.

I went to my usual booth and looked around.

The waiter came over

A young kid I never seen before.

He asked if he could help me.

I said, "Miss Doreen Please."

"Miss Doreen?" She's moved on.

"Not Miss Doreen!"

"Yeah, and the owner is closing the place after tonight.

Doreen, Doreen, Doreen

"Who's gonna crush my nuts?"

Old fashioned ice cream sundaes always such a treat. So sad when something has to come to and end, but all the wonderful memories still live on as she lives in on through your words and your memory.....

Be always safe,
Karen

Love strawberry sundaes, banana splits, hot fudge sundaes all kinds in fact. Just had a peanut butter sauce sundae with caramel nut ice cream last Sat at Friendly's ice cream place. Too bad she moved on and left the diner. Sounds like she made many friends, but sometimes life has a way of taking us to another place.

Jim,

Sounds like a Texas waitress. Gotta be tough to put up with all the bull. LOL So glad I'm a woman - wouldn't want her crushing my nuts!

An excellent write - sad part is, it sounds like Miss Doreen WAS the diner. When she passed, so did the diner. So sorry for your loss.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
