A Romance For the Times

It was a romance for the times
We were a couple for awhile
Smiled, laughed...endlessly

We held hands...kissed in public too
Talked the talk
Walked the walk...how about you

It started out effortlessly
Ended up disastorous
I wasn't in love...anymore

All we did was fight
Over ridiculous things
Love became anger

We finally went our separate ways
Even today I don't understand
How I could love so strong

It just fell apart...
Took ahold of my heart
Left me empty inside

What a sad, but too often love story. Wonderful write.

Felix is right...love that vanishes like that, is a want, a need that is never satisfied, where one is isolated within oneself, and never even sees the other enough to truly love, or appreciate...this poem is heartbreaking.

The line between love and longing an lust and wanting is often so close that it gets blurred when we walk into a relationship.
