For those who climb, or even take on a strenuous hike, there usually comes a time when one is confronted with a mountain hut that speaks its own language. This is but one man’s experience with same.

Eagled Man

With wings outstretched

currents carry Nature's eyes upward

rising above meadowed Alpine flowering

across scree-scattered memories old

soaring above storm and cloud

coming to rest on season's memory-laden cover

Beneath a taloned grip

slants rusted sheets of shelter

overhanging tin-sealed windows

now but closed eyes

once open to saber edged granite

What secrets lay at rest

within its stone walls?

What flames of the soul

has this bouldered shield kept kindled?

What exhaustion of lungs

has her solid floor rested?

What whispered voices

have her passion embers kept conscious?

To some

A rest stop in history

To others

An outpost of courage

To all

A rock-firm pause

reminding those who pass

eagles do soar

just as legs do climb

seeking but the calm

the windless current

where melodic vision is unabated

and chorused echoes spring infinite

where journey of mind

meets home of spirit

both rest stop and outpost, Odin,
measures of history and your excellent thinking
but greater than the analysis the heart you
display more and more as you explore your voice

there is a dreamy sense to this poetic journey but, the pause in the things we do, sometimes unnoticed, is it an opportunity for change in direction or forge ahead, a reassessment or rest. well stated, Odin.

Odin,
what a climb to find the soaring home

A poignant poetic vignette, Odin. These high mountain explorations have long been a vital part of my/our creative and spiritual strengths. As often as possible my wife and I push off along some familiar (or unknown) path in search of inspiration. Here, the marrow of your thoughts are reminiscent to me of a piece of flash fiction entitled 'foregone times', of which I share with you the last paragraph...

"While the quaint wooden cabin slumbered peacefully in a certain measure of disorder, it still somehow appeared to be magically imbued with the vitality of the clever designer. Stripped now of all welcome and warmth; it readily mirrored the willpower and strength it had taken to build, and struck in me a decided melancholy of foregone times."
