Consideration while viewing a video of dust settling on attic cobwebs. One can’t help but see the allegorical irony in Carl Sagan’s famous poster of the cosmos and the tiny dot representing earth: “You are here”
|
But a Shimmer
To be that
Which knows from where it came
Knows the reality-hard past whose dust
It now imbues with reflection
As light beams bathe
Floating detachments free
Coming to rest on silent seas of peace
To know laughter learned its way
By hardened experience
Before it might relax into ripples of solitude
Oh to accept such a shimmer
Smile as eight legged innocence does
Fold into compliance
Await and dream
Just as a dust mite's next iteration
Knows existence
Is but a shimmer
In creation's grand continuum

| "momentary masters of a fraction of a dot" - quote of Carl Sagan. Odin, I find that your poem contains the compressed compost of allness. I see inside this huge little poem and feel it is a keyhole within a keyhole the way microspecs in the sun drift into web and the way you make it float and settle with lines as herculean as "To be that/Which knows from where it came" and "....laughter learned its way" "...seas of peace" "...relax..." "...compliance..." complexion of something as miniscule as one little pixel, so what is the big fuss.... Utterly grand presentation. ~~ Diana |

| That all sounds almost existentialist, but I think therefore I . . . I refuse to have my existence be categorized as merely a shimmer. I may be less even than a shimmer, but again, I think, therefore I . . . |
