Behind Those Eyes

Behind Those Eyes

I saw in your eyes, the flowing of
peaceful pastels-
The vibrance of sizzlin' hot pinks;
glowing oranges; and the haunting
of vacant sea shells-

I saw in your eyes, a future
yet to be told-
A past that could re-write history;
spread thick with layers of stubbornness;
uniquely bold

I found where you hide; and where
you create-
I saw in your eyes, a passion for
life; living and dying-
and I felt your anxiousness; and
dared your knowledge of fate

I fell into the cracks, of your
dirty sidewalk thoughts-
Your stained-glass memories; of broken
dreams and schemes-
And I saw in your eyes; the silly smirk,
when you got caught

Somewhere far behind those eyes,
there's a spirit breaking free-
A soul tangled in a web of popcorn
garlands; Timeless frantic fits;
Somewhere behind those eyes;
is where I'll find; Me

I love the twist that you applied at the end of this, Lisa. Your poem is poetic perfection, with depth, an interesting and strong rhyme scheme, and a story line that I found to be captivating. It is always a pleasure to read your poems. Each one stands alone in its uniqueness and its glory. I find it so hard to believe that you are the same writer I started reading a couple of years ago. Your growth as a writer has been not only astounding and quick but also a direct path to literary excellence.
Take care,
Sherry

This touches deep somewhere in my own soul as well, Lisa. Somtimes we know we have other persons inside us that we can only release in the tiniest ways. It would be nice if every now and then we could set them free and just see what the results would be. Anyway as always a thought provoking piece.
