The Sinking

Oh Captain
My Captain...
The seas have been rough,
The tide unwilling
to ebb.

Oh Captain
My Captain...
The journey's too much
The world's unwilling
to end.

Oh Captain
My Captain...
Is love
(alone)
only
A four letter word
(made up)
A tide...
unwilling to flow...

Oh Captain
My Captain...
The sails are all tattered
the wind is blowing
the seas are sowing
waves of destruction,
a teary wet wish...
is this how it ends...
Is this how she sinks...

This once proud vessel...
This once grand ship
the years have passed quickly
wishes lost on the winds..
yet time not nearly
as unkind as he...

Yet eyes with no vision
see only the now
Hearts with no beating
resound a dull echo
Souls with no blood
let go...

Oh Captain...
My Captain...
She slips ' neath the waves
welcome the rush of
God's angel's tears
gulping in gratitude
the baptism of life...

Oh Captain....

My Captain...
She rises again
to tell of it all
in her silence...

A meaningful 'borrowing' from Mr. Whitman, indeed.. but that's not what this is about.. I took senior lifesaving as a kid.. you go under those waves, Tricia, I'm there! And now, I sit here weeping for the utter beauty and depth with which you have told this, I fear, auto-biographically. I cannot bear to think of you this sad. katy.

oh, and the pain, such pain...still, my friend, so beautifully etched, flowing within your wondrous way, you...oh, just, well...the beauty so caprures those sightless eyes and the emptiness wrenched from one...love you so much, and always, your work, too!
