The Optimist

Old too soon.

The Optimist

Beauty walks into my life without a sound.
She’s not there every morning, but often enough to keep her vision alive in my mind.
I see her from about a quarter of a mile in the distance.
She is tall and so erect.
Her body is a vision of loveliness and perfection ~
So tanned, and athletic, and supple.
And clad only in a bikini.
My aging muscles are suddenly youthful.
My stride firms, my pulse quickens.
Today she will speak to me.
She approaches, and my eyes move toward her.
My smile broadens.
She looks straight ahead
With all the warmth and sincerity
Of a marble statute.
She passes
Like a stranger in the night.
The moment is gone.
“Tomorrow will be different “
I sigh. “Yes, tomorrow will
Be different.”
