One of a series of poems on the subject of film

filming on location

i should have locked in a salary
handshakes in hollywood
dissipate when the budget soars

in my stressful sleep they come—

shooting at a ghost town on location
twelve hours a day
you’d see them too

it started last week when . . .

i wish we could bring back james dean
the blond i hired said innocently enough—then—
someone shouted they saw rock hudson
fighting with gary cooper on horseback

i just yell cut and take thirty
hitch’s hand touches my shoulder
oh god, not me too

shooting on location at a ghost town, you’d see them too
