Rail, Rail against the dying of the light - Dylan Thomas-

Upon  the shores of yesterday
I dream of times gone by
Of summer days and dizzy girls
And laughter in the sky

The days ahead lie bleak and cold
The darkness whispers lies
Of visions lost and love foretold
Unbearabale goodbyes
Take my spirit kindly lord
In darkness lay me deep
The seeds of dischord flower now
As hope kneels down to weep
Where fled the laughter of my youth
Where died the fire of joy
Where died the fellowship of friends
The laughter of the boy
Silence thunders in my mind
And darkness steals my eyes
Streams of sorrow mark the path
Of sorrowful goodbyes
The light of hope now lies behind
And darkness lies ahead
Amid the shadows will I dwell
And make my final bed
The light of hope was but a lie
All joy is crushed by time
As withered flesh walks to the grave
In bitter, silent mime
But smile fair spirit at thy fate
To the Liar never yield
Let laughter be thy cloak once more
Thy pain shall soon be healed
For sorrow cannot follow thee
Beyond the world of light
Nor can hope deceive the man
Who hath embraced the night
So raise thy sword in fellowship
Brave warrior of the night
Face now  eternal darkness
And stand against death's blight
Oh Lord of Time, I spit at thee!
And scream my battle cry
And crush thy curse beneath my heel
And now to battle fly
No hope I need my pride to bear
Nor light upon the hill
For all is lost from birth through death
Life is a bitter thrill
I wear mortality with pride and pain
The darkness loves me well
No surrender! screams my soul
It is my last farewell!

Sorrowful as to death is, the possiblility of another existence beyond may alleviate some of that sadness. Still most of us cling to our mortality with as much tenacity as we can muster. Dylan was right. We do rail against that coming night, Death is the beginning middle of a long life. I enjoyed the drama of this. Good writing Keith. Bob

In one poem, you have some summed everyone faces pending death. I certainly hope you aren't actively engaged in the battle you have written so brilliantly about.

very well written

Life's a struggle and nobody tells it better.
Glad you're back and in fantastic writing form, Keith.
