These Steps You’ve Built

A home can become a prison. So, if you don't want them walking out on those steps that you built, then you might want to walk on the path to home, or invite them out, to spend the evening with you, no matter what is planned.

Now you’re wondering
Walking in a dazed
fog of your own
That’s why we are
Where we are today
How did we get here
So soon

You wonder what’s making me want to
Escape
As you now claim stake
But then again it’s not anything
Specific, just a combination
Of all the above, you really have
No clue

You, yourself built these steps
The ones I am walking on
You built them around these
Prison walls that once was our home
When our love was new~n~true

My heart has been the rugs
You seemed to not mind stepping on
As you come in from wherever
With tides of alibis
Along with perfume and smoke
You don’t even try to disguise

Yes, my darling you built these steps
The ones that are leading me to my freedom
You’ve let others take advantage
Of my kindness, even with ones that
I didn’t care for, in your world
Of friends~n~family

You chose to let them beat me down
Cut me down with words and actions
To a person they didn’t take the time
to know
they were only
following your footsteps
believing it was okay to treat,
me this way
For you have became judge~n~jury

Even when we were out
To dine or a party
Where would you be
Certainly not next to me
You would act as if you
Didn’t know who I was
Till it was time to go

In a store to shop together
You would disappear instantly
Afraid someone would see you
With your wife
You really don’t pay
Attention from
A catch of an eye

It’s time to say no more
For
There’s really no more to say
Let’s close the door
It’s agreed the past years
Weren’t a mistake
Just the ones the ones made
deliberately
