A soldiers promise.

I'm coming home
I never wanted to leave you in the first place.
But I was called away to do my duty
In this hell I sit and all I can do is think of you
All my life I was filled with failed promises
But this one I am sure to keep
Over the screams of agony and fear
And explosions that rock the earth beneath my feet
I can still hear you say, are you coming home soon
Through the smoke and the fire
I still see you on the porch waving goodbye
Oh God let me leave this place in whole
Those bombs are getting awfully close
The screams are getting louder
The smoke is getting thick
The dirt beneath my feet is turning red
I did my duty what else can I do
Wrapped in a flag many will leave
Here for a cause that was never really ours
I just want to go home
I made a promise that I will keep
The bombs may fall
The enemy may advance
I'm coming home

A most profound and heartfelt write. I could feel the emotions sliding from one place to another and grieve for all who gave their lives. Always, always, always, GOD PLEASE BLESS OUR TROOPS!

Be safe,
Karen
