On a Rainy Morning

The world sounds different on a rainy day,

as if it has slowed in its frantic rush to accomplish things

that will seem so inconsequential tomorrow.

~

Delivery trucks seem to take longer to shift gears

as they make their way along the puddle-filled streets

along the same routes they take every day.

~

The grass, trees, and shrubs all seem to be slowly stretching,

as if waking up from a period of hibernation and lifting their heads

and looking around at all that has changed around them.

~

Like the grass, trees, and shrubs, I also feel that I am waking

from a period of hibernation, at least a period in which I stayed

in, out of the heat, and prayed for a day just like today.

Thanks be to God.

A lovely write, Virginia. Who was that person who told me they didn't write poetry. I think you do a very nice job when you set your mind to it. Well done. Keep writing.

I salute You, Poet.
