NEVER

2010

I know you strew rose petals on the floor and across the bed,

But never down a wedding aisle will those petals be spread.

I know we have shared food and drink in sunshine and rain,

But never will we share a piece of wedding cake and champagne.

I know you have held my hand with a touch that still lingers,

But never will you slip a plain band of gold upon my finger.

I know we have shared intimacies that make me swoon,

But never will we share the intimacies we call a honeymoon.

I know we have shared many precious moments of life,

But I know I shall never be the woman you call your wife.

Yes, my darling, I know that all of these things are true ,

But I also promise you this, I shall go to my grave loving you.
