When love is near and passion afire

Prisoner of the Heart
(Words and Recitation by Richard Lee Orey)

                             Your face appeared and my world stood still
                             I knew I couldn't part
                             Enchanted by your image
                             A prisoner of the heart

                             Unable to speak or breathe or move
                             My mind and body and soul
                             No warning shot across my bow
                             Your love my only goal

                             Shamelessly I pursued your love
                             With flowers and words and deed
                             As you gave to me your lovely smiles
                             Gentle touches that I need

                             Yet here I am with passion afire
                             Unable to stay or part
                             My mind and body and soul are yours
                             A prisoner of the heart

                             You turn to walk away
                             But I can't let you depart
                             I drop to a knee to plead my love
                             A prisoner of the heart

                             I catch your eye and hold your hand
                             I pray to God above
                             And a prisoner of the heart is gone
                             Now partners in true love

                                   The lesson I learned that all should know
                             Is when love is at your door
                             You've got to throw your cards on the table
                             In life there's nothing more

                             When love is near and passion afire
                             And you can't bear to part
                             Get on a knee and plead your love
                             As a prisoner of the heart

                             O, the lesson I learned that all should know
                             Is when love is at your door
                             You've got to throw your cards on the table
