A Guide to Gangsters, Murderers and Weirdos of New York City's Lower East S (Book) - 8/10/2009 5:06:31 PM
I would hope that the book might have more of a description of what 139 Hester looked like in the 1880 and 1890's. That kind of background could go a long way to enviven the mere recounting of the murders that took place at the location. What kind of a saloon was there? What was above it? What happened to the place? Is it still there? Without a little literary juice I might as well be reading a police booking report. After all New York is such a fascinating stage for all this mayhem to have taken place.
