Mothers of Writers / Saving Gray - Volume 1 (Book) - 4/4/2009 4:04:38 PM
Johnny, Thank you for sharing your this soulful journey. Most of us will go though these feelings someday...and every time a Mother transitions, a little piece of us goes with her.
Mothers of Writers / Saving Gray - Volume 1 (Book) - 7/30/2007 10:00:53 AM
This is so beautiful! It touched me so deep within bringing those memories of my Mother and her journey home. I too grieves her to this day. I published a poem about her in my first book of poetry.Echoes of an Era. Her echoes of life lessons still ringing in my thoughts encouraged me to continue my dream in writing. This was beautiful Indeed! I do hope you get a chance to read my book of poems.
Mothers of Writers / Saving Gray - Volume 1 (Book) - 7/30/2003 10:10:57 AM
It was beautiful. Of course, it touched me deeply because I knew her and the
for over 30 years. And, it made my memories feel so real. I'm at work
trying to hold back the tears. Tears of sadness and fond memories! God is
good!
These Eyes: The Autobiography of A Once Notorious Po' Bad Boy (Book) - 7/22/2003 8:35:15 AM
Dear Johnny,
Your book is not only enlightening, and revealing of the historical south during tumultuous times, but it ties in to the way troubled youth grew up in the south, and the obstacles they had to overcome. You had a
second chance, and have made your life a role model to those who feel there is no hope. You turned your life around to help others, what better way to pay tribute to those who loved you and guided you through
trouble times.

These Eyes: The Autobiography of A Once Notorious Po' Bad Boy (Book) - 7/21/2003 9:36:46 PM
I was in your class with mrs. murphy and I just want to say that I understand what you have gone through. I grew up differnt but also the same.I wasnt treated badly by other people but my on father. I am now in school and I too have over came alot. I honestly feel that anyone came accomplish thier dreams if they work hard at it. Hell, you nor I was born with a silver spoon in our mouths but look at where we are today and I think that it is by the grace of God that you and I are here today to tell our stories. I also had abuse, not only physical but emotional.I had to raise myself. It was hard for a 14 yr old girl to make it through without parents, but Ill tell you one thing that my parents taught me, I will learn from their mastakes and I will one day be a wonderful mother.

These Eyes: The Autobiography of A Once Notorious Po' Bad Boy (Book) - 2/27/2003 6:36:25 AM
Johnny, These Eyes is a really great and excellent book because like when you were going through all those things it was like I was there with you. Especially that part about when you went to Mt. Meigs, and when that evil man burst your thighs. I wish he could have felt your pain. I just took a moment to say a prayer for you. I know it was hard back then but I really felt sorry for you when you didn’t have any clothes and had to eat out of the garbage cans. That’s when I cried for you the most. But when I read about when your mother died my eyes were red all night like fire. But if I could have just jumped into the book I would have given you a big hug because I love you very much with them pretty green eyes. I pray that God bless you more than He already has… From your best friend Ashley Lewis 10 years old… The end!
These Eyes: The Autobiography of A Once Notorious Po' Bad Boy (Book) - 2/24/2003 8:22:47 AM
The book “These Eyes” was very inspirational for my nine-year-old son Benjamin and me. I attended one of his seminars at (Christian Community Church) on December 20th, 2002 after reading the book twice. Listening to him I realized that threatening to send my son off to reformatory school because of his impulsive actions would be a big mistake. That it would only make him worse. With this information coming directly from Johnny, someone who has experienced this first hand I know it’s fact. Also by reading “These Eyes” I was very emotionally touched by the things society would put an eight-year-old through, whether it was back in the day down south or 2003 up north, all the horrible things he had to see, hear, and experience at such an early age. I was very sadden deeply at the many struggles of life he had to face at such early stages of his life. The book has taught me to be more appreciative and grateful of my own childhood years, and for those of my 3 and 9 year olds. My son was eight years old when I purchased the book and to read about an eight-year-old child going through what Johnny went through was very touching. I am very grateful to the Lord for letting me get to know Johnny and become part of his life. He indeed is a very special person. I also thank the Lord for sparing his life and for him reaching back out to help other people. May God forever keep him as well as bless him in all that he does.

Music is a universal language. Your extreme writing -I hope-will be read by the younger people on AD, and they may pass on the writing--as well as us older folks. Thank you for caring enough to write something so real-so helpful.

very sad story but important to be shared. how many Nells and Ricos are out there? We have some of those situations here as well. The greatest thing is taking them to the schools. You are doing a very important job.
For Teenager's who are in doubt (Short Story) - 7/18/2006 4:38:24 PM
Very good story which could help many young people. Consider using this story in other areas. Teens need to hear this. Parents are not telling and witnessing to leading a life beyond reproach. Enjoy always a good reputation and you will do well here and will be able to meet Jesus face to face with no shame.

Mr.Bodley, I just wanted to inform you that you are one of the biggest influences on my life. On behalf of the Gordo High School, I would like to thank you for the many visits you made to our school teaching us for the better part of life we can recieve. Anyway, I was just looking up a couple of things you wrote and something about "Prom Night Diva" stuck out to me and we just had our prom on March 17, but that story is so amazing and it really just makes you think of how life would be if you were living like them. Also, I was wondering if you could come back to Gordo High School sometime soon and have a talk with the sophmore and senior classes or just maybe the whole high school!!Thank you and love you alot!!!Jaelisa Latham
The Seesaw Monster (Short Story) - 2/16/2006 12:02:55 PM
Sexy,
I was touched when I read this poem because this situation is more prevalent than a lot of people can imagine. I refer to the fact of child abuse by the boyfriend/girlfriend of the child's parent or guardian. Your insight into the seemier side of life is amazingly accurate and heartrending. Keep teaching through poetry!! God Bless.

Johnny, this is one powerful story. There was an e-mail I received sometimes back, about a Kenyan graduate seeking vengence the same way. A letter was found after she had passed on, with names of her victims. We have to be a lot more careful - not just the teenagers but each and every one of us.
God bless,
Sandie.

Hey!
I was looking at your web-site. I was reading all them poems and Some Short Stories. I read the one about the Prom Divas. I believe that is what it was called. I ain't going to write long. I know you have many things to do. As I was reading the Stories I seen where I could e-mail you. You probally get a BUNCH of e-mails. When I got home from school. I told my mom and dad about the program you had done Thursday. I told them about Mt. Meigs. About that camp, you went to. I can only imagine about that camp. So, I was reading another day in your book. You still haven't seen ** I totally forgot her name **....
Well anyways! I better be going. If you can write back that would be good. When you came last year in Mrs. Wheelers Room. I wanted your book. I looked everywhere for it. A year later I found it on the Internet. It is an Awesome Book.
Well talk to you later..... *~*EyEs *~* OR JB!!! Jessie!!!
PS I hope you remember me. Probally don't... :)

I read this short story and it was really great but sad. This story may be fictional, but there are divas out there that are thinking about doing the same thing. Keep up the good work and continue informing our youths as well as our adults on the real world. You certainly have been an inspiration to me and my family. May God continue to annoint you with this special gift. Bettie Briggins Uniontown, AL

True, all kinds of hurting children out there with forlornfull eyes. Some that don't have the love they need, some without 2 parents, some that are in trouble with the law for reasons they don't even think about, and others too. Children are special in God's sight though.

People don't like to see these kind of eyes in real life. Just in the movies maybe. Your poem does what all great poetry does...exposes all of humanity to the full range of human experience! Keep writing from the heart, brother. Your poetry offers a glimpse of hope to many who need to see.

A Strong Proud Black Man! (Poetry) - 10/22/2007 6:27:03 AM
You hear very few positive things about the Black Men and I really enjoy the debth that "green eyes" has taken it. He not only describes the Black mans strife but he reaches in and embarks on social causes while revealing the strength that's attained through sprituality that was driven home and embedded within the soul of a Black Man. Very powerful read. Inspirational.

It is a sad story, and an even sadder state of affairs that you speak of here. There is a growing emotional and spiritual pandemic on this planet - a runaway train that seems to be gaining momentum, and people are always the victims. Powerful write.
